Annalise and Isabella at the Children's Museum of Saratoga - August 24, 2009

It was something special - a playdate with friend Isabella, on a Monday. Jim has Mondays off, and, for the first time, the girls were able to play without Jeremiah's "big boy" influence involved. The big boy, who is a consummate night owl and had been up past dawn, slept undisturbed by his sister's plans...Daddy got some time to catch up on several projects that have long gone undone this rainy summer...trimming lilac bushes, assembling the new wheelbarrow, weeding the woodpile...exciting big guy stuff!

Annalise and I were running a bit late, and had a bit of trouble finding a parking spot (Saratoga is a tourist town, and august is the height of the horse-racing season, there). So we had a pleasant three-block walk and great conversation, even though it was hot.

We finally got inside, took care of bathroom necessities, and adjusted to the lovely cool as we joined Isabella and her Mom in the art studio...

Isabella plays train conductor; Annalise makes a happy passenger!

Next, they adopted some stuffed pets, and cared for them.

They had fun studying X-rays, and then...

Learned by doing, making their own "X-rays" on a light panel!

We went for a "ride" on the train...

A cuppa by the fireplace can be very refreshing, and it's even better with a friend!

The egg display was as interesting as a jewelry case to two intrigued little girls.

Lise is a big fan of scales. Imagine her surprised delight that there were three antique scales in the grocer's exhibit...a happy time of exploration followed, both with Bella and on her own...

There are many more pictures, and much more to relate. But I'm going to insert an intermission here...I've been meaning, for a while now, to write about food and how changing the way we look at it has changed all our lives for the better. Yesterday, I learned that food is the topic of September's unschooling blog carnival, so that will be my next entry...

So stay tuned...the conclusion of our museum trip will arrive within the next week or two...

Peace and Joy!
